  Psychosocial support to vulnerable children

Compassionate Swaziland has been able to form six support groups for vulnerable children in Shiselweni Region. The support groups consist of children living with HIV, total orphans living with elderly people, total orphans living in child headed families as well as those affected by HIV and AIDS. The children’s support groups are linked to support groups for adults living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. The children’s support groups are aimed at creating a platform for vulnerable children to discuss social, economic and health issues that affect their lives.
Compassionate values children’s holistic development. Children’s support group meetings are organized at the local community level to provide Vulnerable children with the opportunity to develop social networks that helps them to develop strong leadership skills and social connections. The home based care volunteers provide counselling to children with social and emotional challenges. Through the home based care givers Compassionate Swaziland makes regular school and home visitation to assess the life situation of the vulnerable children. The volunteers provide bereavement counselling to children have lost their parents, guardians or siblings. The volunteers then make recommendations for immediate intervention.
