  Health and Hygiene

In close partnership with the local community Compassionate regularly monitors the health condition of vulnerable children under its programme through screening. De-worming is carried out through qualified medical personnel/institution. Promotion of hygiene education is done through community trainings and in particular in families with people living with HIV. Compassionate provides trainings to vulnerable children on basic health and hygiene practices including;
·         Healthy eating and lifestyle habits
·         Information on how to avoid contracting diseases including HIV,STI’s, diarrhea, bilharzias, malaria and tuberculosis.
·         Hand washing is taught to the vulnerable children as a way to avoid contracting diarrhea.
·         Environmental health.

Recognizing the role of environment in poverty reduction Compassionate is very particular with Environmental awarenessand sustainability education. Children are made aware of the need for the conservation of our natural resources, climate change, and how every person can help to make a difference. Children can take up recycling initiative which has good potential for income generation. Children are encouraged and taught how to plant trees either at home and school. Compassionate Swaziland works closely with schools and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to initiate tree planting at schools. Compassionate also works with schools to help facilitate the formation of children’s health clubs at school.
